ഒരമ്മ… സ്വന്തം മകന്റെ നേരെ വില്ലു കുലയ്ക്കുന്നു. കൈ വിറയ്ക്കുന്നു, കണ്ണു നിറയുന്നു. എന്നിട്ടും അവൾ അമ്പയച്ചു. എന്തിന്?
(A mother draws her bow at her own son. Her hand trembles, her eyes fill. And yet she lets the arrow go. Why?)
एक माँ… अपने ही बेटे पर धनुष ताने खड़ी है। हाथ काँप रहे हैं, आँखें भरी हैं। फिर भी उसने बाण छोड़ दिया। क्यों?

വരാഹമൂർത്തി ആഴക്കടലിൽ നിന്ന് ഉയർത്തിയ ഭൂമീദേവിക്ക് പിറന്ന മകൻ, നരകൻ. "അമ്മയുടെ കൈകൊണ്ടല്ലാതെ അവനെ ആർക്കും കൊല്ലാനാവില്ല" എന്ന് ഭഗവാൻ വാക്കു നൽകി. പക്ഷേ ശക്തി വളർന്നപ്പോൾ, വെളിച്ചത്തിന്റെ നഗരമായ പ്രാഗ്ജ്യോതിഷത്തിൽ ഇരുട്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു. പതിനാറായിരം സ്ത്രീകൾ കോട്ടയ്ക്കുള്ളിൽ ഓരോ കുഞ്ഞു വിളക്കുമായി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു.
(Naraka was born to Bhoomi Devi, whom Varaha lifted from the deep sea. The Lord promised: "No one can kill him, except his mother." But as his power grew, darkness filled Pragjyotisha, the City of Light. Sixteen thousand women prayed inside the fortress, each with one small lamp.)
वराह भगवान ने जिन भूदेवी को गहरे सागर से उठाया, उनका पुत्र था नरक। भगवान ने वचन दिया: "माँ के सिवा उसे कोई नहीं मार सकता।" पर शक्ति बढ़ी तो रोशनी के नगर प्राग्ज्योतिष में अँधेरा छा गया। सोलह हज़ार स्त्रियाँ किले में एक-एक नन्हा दीया जलाकर प्रार्थना करती रहीं।

കൃഷ്ണനോടൊപ്പം ഗരുഡന്റെ ചിറകിലേറി സത്യഭാമയും യുദ്ധത്തിനെത്തി. ആ അമ്പ് പാഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ നരകൻ ചോദിച്ചു: "ഈ കൈ… അമ്മേടെ കൈ പോലെ…" അവന്റെ അവസാന ആഗ്രഹം — എല്ലാ വീട്ടിലും ഒരു വിളക്ക്. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഇന്നും കേരളത്തിൽ ദീപാവലി പുലർച്ചെ എണ്ണ തേച്ചു കുളിയും വിളക്കും.
(Satyabhama rode into battle with Krishna on Garuda's wings. When her arrow struck, Naraka asked: "This hand… feels like Amma's hand…" His last wish: a lamp in every home. That is why, even today in Kerala, Deepavali dawn begins with an oil bath and a lit lamp.)
कृष्ण के साथ गरुड़ के पंखों पर सत्यभामा भी युद्ध में आईं। उनका बाण लगते ही नरक ने पूछा: "यह हाथ… माँ के हाथ जैसा क्यों लगता है…" उसकी अंतिम इच्छा — हर घर में एक दीया। इसीलिए आज भी केरल में दीपावली की भोर तेल-स्नान और दीये से शुरू होती है।
