മക്കളില്ലാത്ത ദുഃഖവുമായി വർഷങ്ങളോളം ശിവനോടു പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ച പാടിക്കുറ്റി അന്തർജനം. ഒരു പുലരിയിൽ, പുഴക്കരയിലെ പാറമേൽ ചിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു കിടന്ന ഒരു പൊന്നോമനക്കുഞ്ഞ്. അവർ അവനെ സ്വന്തം മകനായി വളർത്തി. (Padikutti Antharjanam prayed to Shiva for years in the sorrow of having no child. One dawn, on a rock by the river, lay a laughing, precious baby. She raised him as her own son.)

കാട്ടിലലഞ്ഞ്, വിശക്കുന്നവർക്കൊപ്പം ഉണ്ണുന്ന മകൻ. "അച്ഛാ, വിശക്കുന്നവന് ജാതിയുണ്ടോ?" എന്നു ചോദിച്ച നിമിഷം, ആ കണ്ണുകളിൽ അഗ്നി ജ്വലിച്ചു. "മോനേ, ആ കണ്ണുകളടയ്ക്ക്... അമ്മയ്ക്കു വേണ്ടി" എന്ന അമ്മയുടെ കരച്ചിലിൽ ആ ജ്വാല അവൻ ഉള്ളിലൊതുക്കി. അന്നു മുതലാണത്രേ മുത്തപ്പൻ തെയ്യം പൊയ്ക്കണ്ണണിയുന്നത്. (A son who roamed the forest and ate with the hungry. The moment he asked, "Father, does a hungry man have a caste?", fire blazed in his eyes. At his mother's cry, "Son, close those eyes... for your Amma," he held that fire within. It is believed that ever since, the Muthappan Theyyam wears false eyes.)

"വിശക്കുമ്പോ അമ്മയെ ഓർക്കണേ." "ആരു വിശന്നിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടാലും ഞാൻ അമ്മയെ ഓർക്കും." ആ വാക്കു പോലെ, ഇന്നും പറശ്ശിനിക്കടവിൽ നിന്ന് ആരും വിശന്നു മടങ്ങില്ല. ("When you're hungry, remember Amma." "Whenever I see anyone hungry, I'll remember you, Amma." True to that promise, even today no one leaves Parassinikadavu hungry.)
