ഗുരുവായൂരിലെ മേൽശാന്തിയുടെ പന്ത്രണ്ടു വയസ്സുകാരനായ മകൻ ഉണ്ണി, അച്ഛനു പകരം ഒരു ദിവസം ഭഗവാന് നിവേദ്യം വെച്ചു. ഭഗവാൻ അതു കഴിക്കുമെന്ന് ആ കുഞ്ഞു മനസ്സ് ഉറച്ചു വിശ്വസിച്ചു. (Unni, the twelve-year-old son of Guruvayur's chief priest, offered the naivedyam to the Lord one day in his father's place. His little heart truly believed the Lord would eat it.)

ഭഗവാൻ കഴിച്ചില്ല... ഉണ്ണി കരഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ പാത്രം ഒഴിഞ്ഞു. അച്ഛന്റെ കൈ ഉയർന്നപ്പോൾ, ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ നിന്ന് ഉണ്ണിക്കണ്ണന്റെ ശബ്ദം: "അവനെ തല്ലരുത്. ആ നിവേദ്യം കഴിച്ചത് ഞാനാണ്." (The Lord did not eat... Unni wept. Then the vessel was empty. When his father raised his hand, little Krishna's voice came from the sanctum: "Don't beat him. It was I who ate the naivedyam.")
