പടയാളികൾ വേട്ടയാടിയ ഒരു രാജകുമാരനെ ഒരു പ്ലാവിന്റെ പൊത്തിൽ ഒളിപ്പിച്ചത് ഒരു കുഞ്ഞ് ഇടയച്ചെറുക്കൻ. ആ കുട്ടി ഭഗവാൻ തന്നെയെന്ന് വിശ്വാസം. ഇരുപതു വർഷം കഴിഞ്ഞ് അതേ രാജകുമാരൻ, മാർത്താണ്ഡവർമ്മ, കിരീടവും ഉടവാളും ഒറ്റക്കൽ മണ്ഡപത്തിൽ വെച്ച് രാജ്യം മുഴുവൻ ശ്രീ പത്മനാഭന്റെ തൃപ്പാദങ്ങളിൽ സമർപ്പിച്ചു. അന്നുമുതൽ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ഭരിച്ചത് ഭഗവാൻ; രാജാവ് വെറും പത്മനാഭദാസൻ.
(A little cowherd boy hid a hunted prince in the hollow of a jackfruit tree; devotees believe that boy was the Lord himself. Twenty years later the same prince, Marthanda Varma, laid his crown and sword on the Ottakkal Mandapam and offered his whole kingdom at Sree Padmanabha’s sacred feet. From then on the Lord ruled Travancore; the king was only Padmanabha Dasa.)
